RODOLPHUS TRYON 7.240a, first son of Zebina Tryon 6.155e and Emily (Hodge) Tryon, was born at Deerfield, Mass., Oet. 20, 1809. He married Lavina Derby, daughter of Oliver Cromwell Derby and Lavina (Stoekwell) Derby, in 1835. She was born at Ticonderoga, N.Y., in 1810. He started from Williamsville, Erie County, N.Y., in September of 1836 with $12 in his pockets. He made his way to Lima, Mich., loeated, and walked baek home. The next Spring he returned with his wife and his brothers (names not mentioned). It is reported that this eouple had six children. We find a name for only one boy;

Rodolphus 7.240a died in 1894, aged 85 years. She died in 1888, aged 78 years. Both buried in Maple Grove Cemetery, Mason, Mich. The record states that two of the children were girls. One of them married Mr. Cooper, and the other married Mr. Harris. Nothing more has been learned of this family.

CHARLES HOPKINS TRYON 7.248a, first son of Bela Hopkins Tryon 6.155m and Harriet (Billings) Tryon, was born at South Deerfield, Franklin County, Mass., June 2, 1826. He moved to Illinois with his parents at the age of 10 years, and at the age of 21 he was a Justice of the Peace. He married first, Laura A. Hodge in 1848. Her birth date is lost, but she died June 5, 1876. In 1862, Charles raised a regiment, and was captain of the 95th Illinois Infantry. This couple had two children:

Charles married second, Marion E. (Downs) Sherman, a widow, and a school teacher, on July 4, 1877. She was the daughter of Daniel Downs and Clarissa (Watson) Downs, and was a native of Oswego, N.Y. In 1882, Charles was elected as a Representative in the 33rd General Assembly. He died Apr. 13, 1916, aged 89 years. No record of any children to this union.
GEORGE FREDERICK HANDEL TRYON 7.248b, second son of Bela Hopkins Tryon 6.155m and Harriet (Billings) Tryon, was born at Manilus, N.Y., in 1828. He was a farmer, and married first, Jane Amelia Downs, daughter of Daniel Downs and Clarissa (Watson) Downs, and evidently a sister of Marion E. (Downs) Sherman mentioned above, in 1852. She died 6 years later (1858). George and Jane were the parents of three children:

"It is interesting to note that the first wife of George F. Tryon 7.255c, Jane Amelia Downs, was a sister of Marion E. Downs, the second wife of Charles H. Tryon 7.248a, and their parents were Daniel and Clarissa (Watson) Downs, grandparents on the maternal side of Ira Billings Tryon 8.398c. His great grandfather was Major Watson, who, while a young man, was a prisoner for a time among the Indians, and was compelled to run the gauntlet. He was later adopted by an Indian chief, but was assisted by a fur trader to escape. He became a soldier in the War of the Revolution, serving under Washington and LaFayette, taking part in the Battle of Monmouth. He also served in the War of 1812, was an active participant in the battle of Sackett's Harbor, was captured by the British and placed on board a prison ship, from which he was finally released through the intervention of the President. He came to Wisconsin with his daughter, Mrs. Clarissa (Watson) Downs, dying there at the age of 100 years, 3 months, and 21 days, and was buried in the Linn Hebron Cemetery. He is the only Revolutionary soldier buried in McHenry County, Ill." This quotation was obtained by Mrs. Martha Barner 10.300a through personal correspondence with Mrs. Bonnie Doon Cairns 10.290c, of Woodstock, Ill. (now deceased). Mrs. Cairns was a direct descendant of Capt. William Tryon 5.86a and Hannah (Hopkins) Tryon.

EDWIN TRYON BILLINGS 7.255d, second son of Eunice (Tryon) Billings 6.158a and Ira Billings, was born Nov. 20, 1824. He became a portrait painter and landscape artist. He followed this work in the South before the outbreak of the Civil War, and in 1859 he came to Boston and opened a studio on Temple Place. He was rated as an artist of merit and had among his patrons the senior Oliver Wendell Holmes, William Lloyd Garrison, and Wendell T. Phillips. His painting of the interior of the old wheelwright shop received special mention at the centennial exposition at Philadelphia in 1876. At the age of 43 years, he married Frances E. Keller, of Boston, Mass., on Aug. 22, 1867. He died at Boston, Oct. 19, 1893, aged 69 years. They had two children:

He was killed at the Battle of Bull Run. She died at Pasadena, Calif., Jan. 19, 1906, aged 78 years. One son is reported:

They both died at Greely, Colo., she on Oct. 21, 1871, at the age of 33 years, and he on Jan.. 25, 1893, aged 62 years. They had two children:

LAURA JANE BILLINGS 7.255i, fourth daughter of Eunice (Tryon) Billings 6.158a and Ira Billings, was born at South Deerfield, Mass., Sept. 6, 1836. When she was 44 years old, she married James Tuckerman, of Greely, Colo., Mar. 17, 1880. One son is found recorded:

EUNICE ANNE1TE BILLINGS 7.255j, fifth daughter of Eunice (Tryon) Billings 6.158a and Ira Billings, was born Aug. 10, 1838. She married William Newton Nimms or Nims, son of Albert H. Nimms and Nancy (Wells) Nimms, Feb. 8, 1876, when she was 38 years old. He was born Sept. 8, 1827. There is no mention of children. She died at Pasadena, Calif., but date is not shown.
EDWARD TRYON 7.256a, first son of Lemuel Tryon 6.158b and Lydia (Forbes) Tryon, was born in Livingston County, N.Y., in 1823. He married Sarah Bailey, date not known.. She was born in New York State, and died at Clinton, Mich. It is said that there were two sons and one daughter, but we found only one recorded:

EUNICE TRYON 7.256b, first daughter of Lemuel Tryon 6.158b and Lydia (Forbes) Tryon, was born in Livingston County, N.Y., Aug. 28, 1825. She married James Hendryx, in Livingston County, June 18, 1850, when she was 25 years old. He was born in Madison County, N.Y., Aug. 26, 1820. They both died at Cuba, N.Y., on the same day, Oct. 25, 1875, and were buried in Black Creek Cemetery. Eunice was his second wife. They had one son:

TIMOTHY TRYON 7.256d, second son of Lemuel Tryon 6.158b and Lydia (Forbes) Tryon, was born in Livingston County, N.Y., in 1829. He lived at Glenwood, Iowa, with his brother Jared, then went West to Nebraska or Dakota Territory, where he met and married a young woman who was teaching in an Indian school. Her name is not mentioned, but they had two children:

JARED or JARD TRYON 7.256e, third son of Lemuel Tryon 6.158b and Lydia (Forbes) Tryon, was born at York, Livingston County, N.Y., Apr. 19, 1851. At the age of 30, he enlisted as a sergeant in Company H, Ninth New York Volunteer Cavalry on Oct. 29, 1861, and re-enlisted on Dec. 20, 1863. He was commissioned a Second Lieutenant on Feb. 9, 1864, and was wounded and taken a prisoner of war at Trevillian Station, Va., on June 11, 1864. His right leg was amputated, and he was later exchanged and discharged at Rochester, N.Y., Apr. 28, 1865, with total disability. On Mar. 14, 1867, he was elected Collector and Constable of York, N. Y., according to the Livingston Republican. He married Susan Mary Kellogg at Richford, Vt., on Dec. 19, 1869, by Rev. S. S. Garvin. They moved to Glenwood, Mills County, Iowa, where he was a farmer and a real estate dealer, and was affectionately called "Captain." He served as County Recorder for 6 years. He died at Glenwood on July 24, 1891, aged 60 years, 3 months, and 4 days. His obituary, printed in the Mills County Tribune of July 30, 1891, says: "All loved and respected him for his spotless integrity, which never allowed him to do anything but that which was strictly honest and honorable, and his kindliness of character which drew all toward him irrespective of party or creed." Both were buried in Glenwood Cemetery.They had three children:

Tryon 7.238a, a second cousin. He was born in New York State in 1836, a son of Luther Tryon 6.155a and Nancy Ann (Bradley) Tryon. They lived at Dowagiac, Mich., and had one daughter, after they had adopted a boy. His name was

JOHN WESLEY TRYON 7.256g, fourth son of Lemuel Tryon 6.158b and Lydia (Forbes) Tryon, was born in Livingston County, N.Y., in 1839. The record shows that John, an orphan, read law with Spofford Tryon 7.238a, and lived with him and his wife Lydia Roxanna 7.256f, and died of tuberculosis. He never married.

ELIHU ALVORD TRYON 7.267i, fourth son of Andrew Sylvanus Tryon 6.168a and Alice Morley Townsend (Alvord) Tryon, was born at Morrison, Ill., June 19, 1856, and died at Pasadena, Calif., Mar. 4, 1933. He was an editor, and on Dec. 29, 1881, married Sarah Elizabeth Auten at Kellogg, Iowa. She was born in Knox County, Ohio, Aug. 16, 1858. They had five children:

WILLIAM ROGERS 7.268a, son of Harriett Maria (Tryon) Rogers 6.169a and Merritt Rogers, no birth date. It is told that he went West to the gold rush of 1849, met and married an actress, and they had a son:

He and his wife brought his son to his mother's home. She is said to have been quite religious at this time and would not allow him or his wife or his son in her house. There seems to be no further record of either of them.

RHODA E. TRYON 7.270a, twin daughter of Jermiah Jones Tryon 6.169c and Rhoda Blakeslee (Rogers) Tryon, was born at Saybrook, Conn., Nov. 10, 1828, and died between 1891 and 1908. She married first, Richard G. K Stokes, son of Richard Stokes and Mary Ann (Kirtland) Stokes, at Westbrook, Conn., on Feb. 14, 1848. He was born in March of 1826, and died at Saybrook, Oct. 15, 1854, at the age of 28 years and 5 months. They had two sons:

JEREMIAH JONES TRYON II 7.270b, twin son of Jeremiah Jones Tryon 6.169c and Rhoda Blakeslee (Rogers) Tryon, was born at Saybrook, Conn., Nov. 10, 1828, and died July 29, 1902, at the age of 73 years, 8 months, and 19 days. He married Martha Amanda Young, daughter of Francis Young and Mary (Burdick) Young, in November of 1851. She was born at Ogden, N.Y., June 15, 1831, and died at Old Saybrook, Sept. 6, 1919, aged 88 years. Seven children reported:

JOHN WESLEY TRYON 7.270c, first son of Jeremiah Jones Tryon 6.169c and Lucinda (Crittenden) Tryon, was born at Saybrook, Conn., Aug 3, 1834. He was a sea captain, and married Abbie Jane Brown, daughter of Lyman Brown and Elvira (Welch) Brown, at East Hampton, Conn., May 4, 1859, when she was 17. She was born Oct. 3, 1842, and died at Milford, Conn., at the home of her daughter Violet 8.440c, on June 21, 1921. She was buried at Lakeview Cemetery at East Hampton. He died Sunday, June 28, 1908, aged 74 years, at East Hampton, and was also buried in Lakeview Cemetery. He never did any work on land for pay, and at 17 years of age was made captain of the schooner Hannah E. Chave.
Later he was captain of the Hastings and of the Parthenia, first twin-screw steamer in Connecticut. The boiler of this ship exploded on Jan. 18, 1870, and injured Allen 7.270e, the captain's 18-year-old brother, who died from the injuries. Capt. John Wesley served two terms in the Connecticut Legislature in 1863 and in 1893. He lived at Saybook and Portland, Conn., and at Pawtucket, R.I. He and Abbie Jane had seven children:

AZUBAH M. TRYON 7.270d, first daughter of Jermiah Jones Tryon 6.169c, and Lucinda (Crittenden) Tryon, was born at Saybrook, Conn., in 1837. On Sept. 11, 1855, at the age of 18, she married Cyrus R. Clark, a 27-year-old bell maker, of Chatham. He was born in 1828. No record of children.
UNNAMED TRYON 7.270e, a still-born daughter born prematurely to Jeremiah Jones Tryon 6.169c and Lucinda (Crittenden) Tryon, was born and died Mar. 15, 1840 (?).
SARAH BELINDA TRYON 7.270f, third daughter of Jeremiah Jones Tryon 6.169c and Lucinda (Crittenden) Tryon, was born at Saybrook, Conn., July 16, 1840, and died Dec. 11, 1925, aged 85 years, at New Haven, Conn. She married Benjamin Cady Clark, at Saybrook on Apr. 7, 1860. He was born at Gloucester, R.I., Oct. 6, 1830, and died at Saybrook, Feb. 20, 1897.
JOSEPH TRYON 7.270g, second son of Jeremiah Jones Tryon 6.169c and Lucinda (Crittenden) Tryon, was born at Saybrook, Conn., in 1845, and was drowned while fishing on May 10, 1860, at the age of 15 years
ADDISON E. TRYON 7.270h, third son of Jeremiah Jones Tryon 6.169c and Lucinda (Crittenden) Tryon, was born at Saybrook, Conn., in 1847, and was mate on the ill-fated Minnehaha, which was lost at sea off the coast of New Jersey in the storm of Jan. 20-22, 1890. The captain of the ship was his nephew, John Addison Tryon 8.440d, son of Capt John Wesley Tryon 7.270c. Addison left a widow and seven children at New London, Conn., but we failed to learn their names.
LUCINDA TRYON 7.270i, fourth daughter of Jeremiah Jones Tryon 6.169c and Lucinda (Crittenden) Tryon, was born at Saybrook, Conn., Mar. 3, 1849, and probably died young.
JOSEPHINE TRYON 7.270j, fifth daughter of Jeremiah Jones Tryon 6.169c and Lucinda (Crittenden) Tryon, was born at Saybrook, Conn., in 1850. She married Jeremiah B. Young, on Dec. 30, 1867. He was born in 1846. A son was lost at sea from the Minnehaha. We did not find his name, but see 7.270h.
ALLEN BIRDSY TRYON 7.270k, fourth son of Jeremiah Jones Tryon 6.169c and Lucinda (Crittenden) Tryon, was born at Saybrook, Conn., July 20, 1851, and was killed by the explosion of a boiler on the ship Parthenia on Jan. 18, 1870, at the age of 18 years, 5 months, and 18 days. (See 7.270c).
CHARLES WILLIAMS TRYON 7.271a, first son of Jedediah Tryon 6.169d and Wealthy Ann (Williams) Tryon, was born at Saybrook, Conn., Apr. 12, 1829, and died Dec. 11, 1871, aged 42 years. He married Grace Ann Hayden, date unknown. She was born in 1839, and died in 1872. They had one son:

WEALTHY ANN TRYON 7.271c, first daughter of Jedediah Tryon 6.169d and Wealthy Ann (Williams) Tryon, was born at Saybrook, Conn., Apr. 28, 1834, and died Sept. 21, 1902, aged 68 years. She married William S. Spencer, on Jan. 23, 1856.
EMILY E. TRYON 7.271d, second daughter of Jedediah Tryon 6.169d and Wealthy Ann (Williams) Tryon, was born at Saybrook, Conn., Mar. 1, 1837, and died Apr. 22, 1883, aged 46 years. She maried Cyrus Brockway, of Chesterfield, Conn., on July 28, 1858.
SAMUEL G. TRYON 7.271e, third son of Jedediah Tryon 6.169d and Wealthy Ann (Williams) Tryon, was born at Saybrook, Conn, Aug. 10, 1849, and died at Saybrook, Aug. 17, 1874, just 25 years of age.

There were no children to this union. Mellen married second, Lillian Eliza (Allen) Berry, a widow, date not known. She was born at Westbrook, July 13, 1868. They both died at Pownal, he on Oct. 4, 1941, aged 74 years, and she on Jan. 13, 1956, aged 85 years. They had three children:

JAMES LIBBY TRYON 7.312a, first son of Joseph Tryon 6.221O and Ellen Bigelow (Cummings) Tryon, was born at Boston, Mass., Nov. 21, 1864. He was a publicist and an educator, and married Katherin Elizabeth Allen, daughter of Charles Addison Allen and Annie (Walker) Allen, Sept. 15, 1885. Annie Allen was a writer and lecturer. Katherine was born at Naples, Maine, Mar. 18, 1865. James Libby was a graduate of Harvard University, retired in 1930, and died at Medford, Mass., Dec. 22, 1952, aged 88 years. WINTHROP PITT TRYON 7.312b, second son of Joseph Tryon 6.221o and Ellen Bigelow (Cummings) Tryon, was born at Cape Elizabeth, Maine, June 10, 1869. He became a music critic, and married Lillian Wainwright Hart, author, and daughter of Charles Edwin Hart and Jane (Wainwright) Hart, of New Britain, Conn., Oct. 30, 1909. She was born at New Britain, June 3, 1870. He was a graduate of Harvard University, and in 1968 was living in Brookline, Maine. One daughter is recorded:

ELLEN ISOBEL TRYON 7.312c, first daughter of Joseph Tryon 6.221O and Ellen Bigelow (Cummings) Tryon, was born in 1871. She graduated from Radeliffe College, and died in 1945, aged 74 years.
GENEVA TRYON 7.312d, second daughter of Joseph Tryon 6.221O and Ellen Bigelow (Cummings) Tryon, was born at Cambridge, Mass., Jan. 4, 1872. She graduated from Tufts Medical School and also from Vassar College, becoming a physician-psychiatrist. She retired, and died at Cape Elizabeth, South Portland, Maine, on Oct. 20, 1966, aged 94 years. Burial was at Portland. Much of the information in this work came from her research and files on the family, through her nephew, Richard Wescott 8.474d.
FANNY EMORET LOVELAND 7.318a, first daughter of Chester Loveland 6.232b and Fanny (Call) Loveland, was born at Amherst, Ohio, Dec. 13, 1838. She married Perringrene Sessions.
