Writing an introduction to the section on poetry is a daunting task. It is the observation of this writer that poetry is a special branch of literature that stands not only alone among all forms of writing, but it is seen by many as the most difficult to master. As a graduate of Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio where I once tried to help the prestigious Kenyon Review survive, I did so only because I thought I could offer some technical and financial help, not because I knew how to write poetry or even superior prose.<BR><BR>I am still learning about those that have the gift of writing in rhyme, and what follows shows a new beginning. |
